34 Visual Signs of Sick Dog
You don't need to be a veterinarian to recognize the visual signs of sick dog. Since you've seen your dog at his best, it is easier to recognize any disturbing changes.
- A major change in behavior. (Ex: A vocal dog stops barking)
- A placid dog gets aggressive with a family member or other pet
- Lack of interest in surroundings
- Has a significant change in his sleep habits
- Drinks significantly more (or less) water
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
- Potbelly
- Abnormal temperature (Normal: 101-102 degrees Farenheit)
- Disorientation
- Lacks stamina
- Difficulty breathing (Normal: 15-20 breaths/minute)
- Breathes heavily while resting (and heat is not a factor)
- Hides in a dark place. Or hides for more than a day and/or night.
- Scratching or chewing at his feet, skin, or coat
- Sheds excessively
- Has new lumps or a wound that isn't healing
- Persistent coughing or retching
- Discharge from ears
- Discharge from eyes
- Inflamed, red, or cloudy eyes
- Difficulty walking
- Difficulty going up and/or down stairs
- Walking in circles
- Persistent head shaking
- Persistent ear scratching
- Smellier breath and/or swollen gums
- Vomiting that persistent over several days
- Bloody vomiting
- Urinates frequently
- Blood in urine
- Stool appears different (in color and/or consistency)
- Mucus or blood in stools
- Persistent diarrhea
